Leinster Masters Indoor Championships, Abbotstown, 22-Feb-2020

The Striders Masters athletes had a 100% record, winning 9 medals out of 9 competitions, across the sprints, middle distance & throws.

Aine Cullen registered a second place finish in Shot Put, but went one place better in the Weight For Distance throwing event, with a new Leinster Indoor championship record. Juvenile coach, Vance O’Reilly rolled back the years, winning silver in the Shot Put event. Fantastic to see our coach in his first Masters competition and bringing home a Leinster medal. The first of many we hope. George Delaney, the indoor kingpin, was fantastic in winning his 1500m event and even managed 3rd place, later in the day, in the 800m event. Well done George.

He’s like the postman, he always delivers – Gavin Kelly earned silver and bronze medals over 800m and 400m respectively. With very little training for the season, Gavin will be well pleased with those results. Alan O’Connor had a ding dong battle with George, who ran different age categories, but in the same race, with Alan finishing ahead by 1 second. This was good enough to earn Alan a fantastic 3rd place finish, in his category. John McGrath ended a fantastic day with a Leinster gold in the 3000m event. After a Winter injury and only back to club training earlier in the week, we’re extra thrilled for John after winning gold. John usually runs the 800 and 1500, so switching up in distance really paid off. Roll on the National Indoors in Athlone in 2 weeks time.
