St Senans Open Track & Field, Kilmacow, 22-Apr-2019

Another great day out for the under age Striders, who did so well to finish a close second in attempting to retain the best club award. Name checking  all our super Striders squad who all performed really well and almost won the shield for best club, for the second year running. Aoife Wall was our sole U8 representative and was brilliant in her first ever race, for the Striders. We had enough U10 athletes for two relay teams. The boys, TJ Murphy, Maitiu Wall, Adam Burke, Fionn MacEochaidh and Darragh Mackey all put in great performances to win a relay silver and TJ delivered his usual sprint medal. The U9 & U10 girls, Katelyn Corish, Ella Howlin, Eiryn McMahon, Isabella O’Connor and Sarah Lillis, had a great day out and all performed really well in their sprint, middle distance and relay events.
In the next two age groups, all six Striders were in great form, in all their events. Ailbhe Mackey and Eoin Stephenson came through their sprint heats and came close to medals in their respective finals. Maeve Burke and Ava Kehoe’s best event of the day was undoubtedly their 700m, with both girls finishing really strongly in a crowded field. Likewise Max Murphy and Cormac Delaney also excelled in their middle distance events, with Max making up a lot of ground in the second half of his race to finish second. Luca O’Connor, Sean Lennon, Olan Delaney and Charlie Alfred teamed up to win an U14 relay medal and a number of impressive individual medals in various events. Well done also to our older athletes – Moya Corbett, Aoife Lyng, Isabel Bawden, Finn Kelly, Darragh Flannelly, Oisin MacEochaidh, Robert & Ben Wall, Kelly Corbett, Adam O’Connor, Ryan Kielthy, Rebecca Bawden, Daniel Wickham, Conor Murphy, Aoife NiEochaidh, Claire Doyle and Patrick Doyle – who picked up numerous individual and team medals in their events and were a great example for the younger ones.
Thanks to all our very supportive parents who made sure we had big numbers competing. Apologies to any athlete whose name I forgot to mention. Finally well done to all at St Senan’s AC for another fantastic day out at Kilmacow.
