Leinster Indoor Juvenile Championships – Day 1, Athlone, 10-Feb-2018

The Striders juveniles had some great performances at the Leinster Indoors, in Athlone. First in action were our race walkers and all three athletes followed up their Leinster outdoor medal winning performances, last summer, with more medals in their first competitive event of 2018. Ciara Murphy placed second, over 1km, with an impressive display. That was followed by Eve Byrne winning bronze and Ryan Kielthy, fresh from his training spell with the Leinster elite squad, winning silver, over 1.5km, in their respective events. Also on the track, Aedan Rogers placed third, in his 1,500m race. After a strong cross country season, Aedan finished his race impressively and wasn’t far off the leading pair, crossing the finishing line. Aoife Muldoon scooped the last medal of the day, for the Striders, with a silver in a competitive Long Jump event.

Adam O’Connor had another good run, in a very competitive 1,500m event and just missed out on a medal. Likewise Clodagh Foran performed very creditably, over the same distance. In the sprint events, Patrick Doyle, Aoife NiEochaidh, Claire Doyle, Daniel Wickham and Joshua Hewlett, were all very competitive and will improve for this outing.

Well done to all athletes who competed in Athlone over the weekend. All gave of their best and we are very proud of them.
