United Striders AC hosted a novel event on Friday 21st July 2017, at their home track, in the town park New Ross. Over one hundred club members, including juveniles, senior men and ladies, participated in relay format to complete a marathon. Owen Lennon, recent Leinster gold medal winner with the Wexford relay team got the event started, with a quick first lap. With a goal of beating ex club member Andy Ronan’s 1991 Boston marathon time of 2:11:27, all eyes were on the clock, during the evening. The half way time check confirmed that the Striders were just inside the target time, but with no room for error. When Aedan Rogers completed the last lap, he stopped the clock at 2:06:42, well inside the target time. Cue wild celebrations. Well done to all who participated in a marvellous event.
