Well done to all the Juvenile Striders who competed successfully at the Wexford Track & Field “B” Championship, held at Enniscorthy. All that training over the last few months paid off big time for Anna Murphy, who won a silver medal in the Long Jump and also helped her Relay team to a medal. Also at U9 age group was Michael Byrne, competing in his first event for the Striders. Michael’s efforts in 60m, 300m, Long Jump and Turbo Javelin earned him a Bronze medal.
At U10’s Moya Corbett was the big winner, with a Gold medal winning throw in the Turbo Javelin and a Relay medal. Conor Geoghegan was very unlucky not to scoop a medal in the Long Jump event, but put in a great leg of his Relay event to win a medal there.
In the U11 age group, we had Katie Whelan, making her first appearance at a Track & Field event. After great performances in all events, including 2nd place in the Long Jump and 3rd place in the Turbo Javelin, Katie added a Relay medal to make it three on the night. In the next age group, we had Ruby Murphy, Aisling Ryan and Isabel Bawden competing for the girls. Winning plenty of medals between them, Isabel’s Turbo Javelin winning throw was possibly the highlight of their many great performances. For the U12 boys, Finn Kelly and Ben Myers ran really well to record individual medals in the 300m and both earned Relay medals to add to their collection.
Last, but certainly not least was Kelly Corbett, who came home with a load of medals after finishing in the top three in all her events. Kelly continues to be one of our top long jumpers and although not getting a PB on the night, her jump was easily good enough to earn her a silver medal.
Well done to all.
