Tough competition on the day with very impressive performances all round.
Well done to all the Striders who competed really well, at the Wexford T&F ‘B’ Championships, at Enniscorthy. We had 19 athletes participating, many for the first time, and all managed to win medals in at least one of their events. In the U9 age group we had Isabella O’Connor and Valeria Fernandez competing for the first time and the experienced Anna Murphy. All three were fantastic with Isabella excelling in the sprints, Valeria excelling in the relay events and Anna Murphy excelling in her long distance run. Gearoid Byrne came through his sprint heat and semi final, to make his mark, whilst Cormac Delaney, running the last leg of his relay, showed real speed to come from behind an win a medal for his team. Ciara Kelly and Conor Murphy showed the benefit of training under Nicky Cowman’s tutelage, as both won bronze medals in the High Jump. In the Long Jump event, Myles Hewlett and Owen Lennon were very impressive against top quality opposition. Continue reading

The women headed out first on the 5k loop around a testing course. First Striders lady home was Beth O’Connor with a very competitive run, closely followed by Sonya Byrne, with Geraldine Purcell and Liz Keating to complete the women’s team, and also Aine Cullen. Our ladies team was 4th. Well done ladies. Continue reading
The Striders had half a dozen of their finest juvenile athletes in action at this weekends Leinster championship. Myles Hewlett gave a very polished performance in the U13 600m event, to win a fantastic Silver medal in an amazing time of 1:40:5. Sam Myers went one better and helped the U11 Wexford 4x100m sprint team to Gold, in the Leinster inter county relay event. Sam also teamed up with Olan Delaney in the U11 600m pairs event. The boys performed really well and their combined time was just outside the medals. Also running the 600m was Sean Lennon, who finished strong to record a Leinster top ten placing in the U12 age group. Continue reading

The Striders had four teams competing at the Leinster 4X100m relay event, held at Le Cheile AC’s track, at Leixlip. The BU17 team kick started the day with a well earned Silver medal. Joshua Hewlett led off with a strong lead leg, Cian Flanagan and Patrick Doyle were excellent in the middle legs and Nic Walkden powered to the line to complete a flawless round. Well done to the team as they’ve worked hard on their speed-work and baton changes. The BU14 team of Darragh Flannelly, Oisin MacEochaidh, Owen Lennon and Aidan Shannon were strong in their heat and ran a great final to finish just outside the medals. Likewise our two U16 teams both qualified for the finals and were unlucky to come up against some really strong opposition. Continue reading
