The Striders had a fantastic evening, on the track, on Saturday, at the second Declan Shannon Memorial event. We managed to dodge the bad weather and enjoy a spot of running followed by a well earned barbecue. The mens 1,500m event was won, for the second year, by Adam O’Connor, who produced a strong finish, ahead of George Delaney and Irish Masters International, John McGrath. The ladies race ended in a tight finish, with Ava Leacy and Sonia Byrne coming across the line together.
When the 1,500m athletes caught their breath, the hotly contested relay race got underway. With a mix of our younger juveniles, from U10’s Conall and Fionn, up to a number of our Leinster U18 medal winning sprint relay teams, in addition to senior athletes, this was always going to be a spicy contest. In the end, it was Daniel Wickham and team, who took the honours.
Thanks to all who participated and most of all thanks to the Shannon family, for their help in putting together another great event.
