The Striders juveniles were in great form at the Leinster track & field event, with lots of great performances and no shortage of medals also. All three of our race walkers came away with provincial medals, with Owen Lennon taking gold and both Isabel Bawden and Ryan Kielthy winning bronze medals. The Striders also had three competitors in the races of new distance – 300m. Tommaso Hickey held off club-mate Luca O’Connor to record a Striders one-two, with Aidan Kehoe winning bronze in the next age group. Over 400m Owen Lennon has definitely found his best distance and was very impressive in landing a silver medal. Also competing in the 400m event Rebecca Bawden, Aaron Browne, Conor Murphy and Oisin MacEochaidh all fared very well and were all just outside the medals. Patrick Doyle, Rory Flanagan, Daniel Wickham, Aoife Ni Eochaidh and Claire Doyle all did well in their 100m and 200m sprints, making finals and finishing just outside the medals.
The middle distance events proved to be very profitable for the Striders, with the Myles Hewlett 800m and 1,500m double being the standout performances. Darragh Flannelly doubled up in these events and medaled in both. Middle winner medal winners also included Adam O’Connor and Ben Wall, with great performance from Sean Lennon, Luca O’Connor, Aidan Kehoe and Robert Wall.
Joshua Hewlett threw over 50m to run up a sequence of Leinster titles. Other highlights in the field events included Patrick Doyle and Claire Doyle finishing second and fourth respectively in the Triple Jump. Aoife and Oisin, in their Long Jump and Shot Putt events were very impressive, in finishing just outside the medals. To wrap up, the Striders fared well in the Relay events, with the Junior Men’s team winning silver in the 4x400m event and many Striders making Wexford teams in the inter county sprint relays.
