The Striders made history at Kilmacow, by winning the Best Club Shield, at St Senans AC’s Open Track & Field day. The 40th anniversary of this event, attracted all the top clubs from the south east and more, from much further afield. After coming close to winning the shield last year, we had a great turn out, from all age groups, who put in some great efforts to win this year.
The Striders won individual sprint medals with some great perfromances by Sean O’Brien, Aaron Browne, David Miodzionowski, Oisin MacEochaidh, Rebecca Bawden, Nic Walkden, Joshua Hewlett and Elaina Browne. More medals for Myles Hewlett, Darragh Flannelly, Erinn Shannon, Elaina Browne, Adam O’Connor, Aaron Browne and Cian Flanagan followed in the middle distance events. Continue reading
The juvenile Striders had a very successful first track & field outing at the open Ferrybank AC event at Waterford. From the younger age groups we had some great performances by Billy Carney, Isabella O’Connor, Hannah Carney, Gearoid Byrne and Clodagh Ryan. In the next age groups we had some real fireworks, starting with Moya Corbett and Lucy Power doing well in their middle distance races. The boys, Ruari Lyng, Sean O’Brien, Ronan Shannon and Sam Myers, were brilliant in their relay, winning silver in a big field. In addition, Ronan won another silver, in the turbo javelin event. A special mention for Sean O’Brien who had an incredible day; coming through his sprint heat to finish fourth in the final, a stunning win in his 300m event and then won his Long Jump event. Double champion!!! Fantastic result with Alan O’Connor running a very tactical race to become Wexford County Intermediate Road Champion amongst a very competitive field today in Coolgreaney. A proud day for the Striders.
The men were unlucky not to take home any team medals today. Also competing in the tough 8k was Pat O’Callaghan, Brendan Lyng, David Byrne, Liam Murphy, John Kent and Emmett Malone.
Representing the women we had the team of Beth O’Connor, Liz Keating, Alison Murphy and Aine Cullen. The women completed one loop of the 4k course. Special mention to Beth with a great run leading the Strider women home in a competitive 7th place.
Thanks to Croghan AC for the lovely refreshments, the County Board for their hard work, and the great supporters for traveling. Always always greatly appreciated.
Well done to the Juvenile Striders who competed over the last two weekends at the National Indoor Championships. We had lots of representation in the 800m events, with Darragh Flannelly, Adam O’Connor, Aaron Browne and Elaina Browne all making their respective finals and performing really well. Although there were no medals this time, there were lots of PB’s and the coaches couldn’t have been happier to have such USAC representation in the middle distance events. Continue reading
