The Wexford Novice Road Race, at Enniscorthy, last Sunday, proved to be another great day for the Striders, with lots of great performances, plenty of medals and a well deserved county title for Alan O’Connor. Over a testing 3km course, the Ladies race was first off and following her exceptional indoor season, winning provincial and national medals, Sonya Byrne ran a fantastic race to finish second and win silver. Great results for the Striders at the National Masters Indoors in Athlone. Gavin Kelly, following on from a great run last week, from an unfavourable inside lane, claimed a great third place finish in the one lap 200m event. More bronze medals followed in the 800m, with Sonia Byrne in the ladies event and John McGrath in the mens event. Well done to Sonia who knocked 12 seconds off her PB. John McGrath went on to compete in the 1500m event, later in the day, and again finishing an impressive third place. Our final competitor in action was Ted Flannelly, who also won bronze over 3000m, finishing an incredible 10 seconds faster than last weeks Leinster indoor championship.
Well done to our senior athletes on an incredible medal haul at national level, competing against Ireland’s best.
