The Juvenile Striders were in action at the new National Indoor Arena at Abbotstown on Sunday. We had multiple relay teams and a number of individual athletes performing in their track and field events. The girls were outstanding in their field events, with Aoife Muldoon winning Gold in the Triple Jump and Ciara Kelly winning Silver in her High Jump. Both girls were a shade off their PB’s, but this was a great start to the season for both. Aedan Rogers looked very strong in finishing 4th place in his 1500M event, which qualifies for the National Indoor Championships. Continue reading
Well done to our U17 Girls team of Alannah, Becca, Grace and Grainne who along with Máiread and Sonia from Adamstown, won the County Bronze medal at the the National B Cross Country Championship today at the WIT Arena in Waterford. These girls have all trained hard this year and a National bronze medal is no more than they deserve.
A number of our other athletes also has some great performances today, with Sean “The Rocket” Lennon putting in a blistering run in the U11 boys to finish 13th, just one place outside of an individual medal position. The Rockets grit and determination was matched by his team mates in the U11 boys, with Ronan, Sam and Luca all having great runs, with the club team just finishing outside of the medals. The Juvenile Striders were on top form in Athlone, putting in some great performances, many PB’s and a handful of medals, for good measure. The U14 boys nearly brought the roof off the stadium, with all three, Aidan Shannon, Darragh Flannelly and Owen Lennon, qualifying for the final. In a thriller of a race Aidan set a blistering pace early on, with Owen and Darragh motoring along in behind. Making it a Wexford one-two, Aidan crossed the line ahead of Conor Doyle, in a very exciting finish. Darragh and Owen were just outside the medals and ran PB’s in a super race for the Striders and Wexford. Building on her excellent performances last summer, Eve Byrne continues to improve and won a brilliant Silver in the 1Km walking event. Continue reading
