Well done to the Strider Juveniles who competed at the St Senan’s AC Open Cross Country event. Myles Hewlett was the star of the day, winning his event, in great style. Also in action and performing really well were Isabel Bawden, Cian Flanagan, Cosmo Hewlett and Rebecca Bawden. This gang will be ready to hit the ground running next week at the county event.
Competing for the Seniors was Alan O’Connor, who had a great performance to finish second in the Masters Category. Well done to all.

Gerry Byrne is kindly assisting USAC by presenting on the topic of Sports Nutrition, at the CBS Secondary School, on Friday 30th September, 7:30pm to 9pm. An accomplished cyclist, Gerry has completed an MSc in the area of Health, Sport & Exercise Science and brings a level of expertise to an area that is of importance to all USAC members. The presentation has been highly recommended by a number of sporting organisations, including our local cycling club, the Barrow Wheelers. We encourage all USAC Juveniles, Seniors and Parents to attend.
Thanks to Gerry for taking time out to share his knowledge and expertise with us. Thanks also to the CBS Secondary School for the venue.
Due to ever increasing numbers of Juvenile athletes turning up for our Wednesday training sessions, combined with limited resources, we regret to announce that we have closed membership for the Under 10 age group (born 2007) and younger. Those younger athletes who have recently started attending training, but haven’t yet completed registration, are not impacted and encouraged to continue attending. The Under 11 age group (born 2006) and older, are also not impacted and we have capacity to accept new joiners, in these age groups.
We will monitor attendance and expect to be in a position, early in 2017, where membership is open to all again. In the meantime, feel free to contact the club regarding placing new joiners on a waiting list.
Great excitement tonight at the Kilmore Athletics Club 10k. As usual the Striders were out in force, with great support for this AAI approved event. It’s an unlucky number for some, but 13 of this Striders gang brought home 5 prizes! Super running.
The women outnumbered the men this evening and well deserved category prizes for Alison Murphy (1st O50) and Lorraine O’Brien (2nd O45). They were in good company with the other ladies of Sandra Young, Sheila Paterson, Patricia Foran, Elaine Devereux, Chantel O’Brien and Mary Butler Carney. Brilliant results ladies. Continue reading

The Track & Field season ended on a real high for the Striders, thanks to great performances at the Nationals from Aoife Muldoon, Eve Byrne and Joshua Hewlett. Well done to Aoife Muldoon on finishing 5th in all Ireland under 17 triple jump with a new pb of 9.34 only 4cms off 3 place. With guidance from coach Vance O’Reilly, Aoife has made enormous progress in a short time.
Congratulations to Eve Byrne who narrowly missed the medals in the All Ireland Walk. Eve’s fourth place is a great reward for all the hard work she’s put in and she leads the way for our growing group of under age walkers. Continue reading
